The months of late-night binge-watching on Netflix, sleeping in and unscheduled summer days are coming to an end, and September is around the corner. The ‘Back to School’ ad campaigns have started to follow you around on google searches, which inevitably means that the new semester is not far away. You look forward to a night out with your uni mates to catch up, but what else is in store for you for the 2016/2017 year.

How will you make this year count? Eventually you’ll need to leave the safety net of university life and venture into the big, wide, world. How can you make sure that you can differentiate yourself from your peers once you’ve graduated. The world is becoming more connected and more global, and employers are looking for different skill sets from people who think outside of the box, and are able to function in multi-cultural and multi-national environments.

Here’s a great place to start:

  • Internships: boost your resume by getting practical experience in an internship. Visit the AIESEC chapter in your campus for information on internships abroad.
  • Volunteer: most universities can help you find volunteer placements both locally and internationally. It’s a great opportunity for personal development and to give back to the community.
  • Study abroad: take a short-term fieldtrip abroad, an academic exchange, a year out or consider a postgrad degree abroad. Study and Go Abroad fairs in September/October to meet with top universities from around the world.
  • Join clubs, try out for sports teams and get involved in campus life. It’s a great way to meet people, try some fun stuff, learn new skills and get experience.

Explore the World! Discover Yourself! Study Abroad!
