Despite the increasing importance of the supplementary application process to many university and college programs in Ontario, many high school students remain in the dark. Though there are various types of supplementary application processes and styles (e.g. video interview, personal essay, portfolio, and application questions), post-secondary admissions teams often look for candidates with soft skills like leadership, integrity and teamwork. For that reason, extracurricular activities are a valuable addition to any supplementary application.
If you're looking to stand out and land a spot at your dream school, participate in one of CPA Ontario's many extracurricular activities through its High School Ambassador Program (HAP).
Taking part in these activities shows school admissions officers and scholarship administrators that you're a driven, committed student, and you'll pick up some valuable skills along the way!
CPA Ontario workshops
These monthly, CPA-led virtual workshops are held from 4 to 5 p.m. and cover financial literacy topics such as saving, banking basics, taxes and applying for post-secondary scholarships. Receive a participation certificate for every workshop attended and enter into a draw to win one of five $25 Amazon gift cards.
On March 25 from 4 to 5 p.m., learn how to tackle and solve cases to prep for the highly anticipated CPA Case Competition. It's free, and all attendees will receive a participation certificate.
Competitions
Write a 500-word essay for your chance to win $500. This competition is open from March 1 to April 12, 2021. Second prize is $250, and third prize is $100. All three winners will receive a digital plaque.
Film a 60 to 90 second YouTube video for a chance to win $750. This competition is open from March 1 to June 7, 2021. Second prize is $300 and third prize is $200. All three winners will receive a digital plaque. Check out last year's winning videos to get inspired.
