Community Partnerships in Music at the UCalgary School of Creative and Performing Arts

The University of Calgary School of Creative and Performing Arts offers music students many opportunities to engage and connect with musicians in the community. Become a better musician by learning from the best! Here are just a few of the community partnerships in place at UCalgary:

Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra

Many of UCalgary's private instructors are members of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Each year, music students receive a chance to perform as soloists with the orchestra as part of the Concerto Competition.

Canadian Music Centre

The Prairie Region of the Canadian Music Centre is housed on the University of Calgary campus. This facility gives music students access to the Violet Archer Library, which contains over 20,000 scores by Canadian composers, available for free circulation.

Land's End Ensemble

Dedicated to introducing audiences to new music by Canadian and international composers, the award-winning Land's End Ensemble frequently commissions works by our faculty members and students. The Land's End Student Composers' Program is a joint project between the School of Creative and Performing Arts and Land's End. The program brings young composers from across the country to Calgary to workshop, perform, and record their piece.

Mountain View International Festival of Song and Chamber Music

In addition to a concert series, Mountain View hosts a summer festival for singers and chamber musicians. Each summer, musicians from across the world converge in Calgary and on campus for masterclasses, coaching, concerts, and other events.

E-Gré National Music Competition

The E-Gré National Music Competition is an annual event focusing on the performance of contemporary music by Canada's top emerging artists. UCalgary's partnership with this organization brings the winner to Calgary for a recital at the Rozsa Centre each year.

Calgary Pro Musica

Our partnership with Calgary Pro Musica allows our students to interact with professional musicians in workshops, masterclasses, and private lessons. Calgary Pro Musica also supports our BMus students through scholarships.

Alberta International Band Festival

Held in February each year, the Alberta International Band Festival brings hundreds of young Albertans to campus to perform and learn from world-class adjudicators in the beautiful Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall.

As a music student at UCalgary's School of Creative and Performing Arts, you'll be in the perfect spot to learn from professional musicians working in many different genres, connecting and collaborating to grow your art. (You'll also get to take advantage of some of the loveliest places on the UCalgary campus!)
