Find Funding for Your Postgraduate Studies at the University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge is widely recognized as one of the world's finest post-secondary institutions. Undergraduates and graduate students alike flock to Cambridge from around the world. Of course, education as an international student can be expensive, so the University of Cambridge offers generous postgraduate funding options. Let's take a look at just a few of the postgraduate funding available to Canadian students at Cambridge.

(Please be aware that postgraduate diplomas and certificates are not eligible for the funding described below. These awards and scholarships are for master's and PhD students.)

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Value of award: £30,000 - £60,000 (annual) (approximately $45,000 - $91,000 CAD)
Number of awards: 80

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship programme was established in October 2000 by a donation of US$210m from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge; this is the largest ever single donation to a UK university.

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship provides funds to fully cover a scholars' tuition costs. This would typically be between £30,000 - £45,000 per year. The exact amount will depend on the specific course fee and course length and whether the student is in receipt of any other funding awards.

Additional funding from this scholarship can be used to cover incidental costs, too, like flights, visas, and even living expenses. Especially helpful when you're visiting from abroad and don't have the normal resources of home.

Trinity External Research Studentship

Value of award: £24,850 - £51,700 (annual) (approximately $38,000 - $78,000 CAD)
Number of awards: 6

Trinity External Research Studentships are intended for students who wish to undertake a PhD (or MPhil with an intention to continue to PhD) at the University of Cambridge.

There is no application form to be considered for Trinity External Research Studentships: candidates who have been offered membership at Trinity College will automatically be considered on the basis of their University of Cambridge application.

If you're on the PhD track, and you want some international experience, check out this amazing award at Cambridge's Trinity College. (Plus, you'll be able to use some of the funds for covering the cost of your return flight to the UK!)
