Choosing Between School and Travel? Why Not Both!

All aboard! We’re taking a trip through all the reasons to study abroad.

Save

Some people decide to go to school, and some people decide to take time off to travel the world. However, did you know that there are options to do both at the same time? Most universities not only allow you to travel abroad while working towards your degree, but they encourage it! Here are a few reasons why you should definitely consider doing a bit of traveling during your post-secondary studies.

It’s a fun experience

To put it plain and simple, why wouldn't you want to travel the world, given the chance? The new experiences and friendly faces you would have never met, all while still working towards graduating on time!

Learn things that you can’t learn from a book

How do the locals speak? What are their favorite foods to eat, and what do they taste like? These are things you can learn only from being there and experiencing it. Plus, why would you want to read about a far-off place when you can live it instead?

Earn money while you travel

Not interested in taking classes abroad? Earn some work experience instead! It's as easy as applying for co-op work terms in places you'd like to live for 4 months! Depending on where you are, you may even be able to visit the surrounding countries.

Take your degree up a notch

At Waterloo, you can earn a Global Experience Certificate as part of your degree and show future employers that you have a number of transferable qualities. This includes adaptability, inclusive, cultural sensitivity, and that you are an experienced global citizen with a lot to bring to the table.
