ALT-Scholarship:
Canada’s first educational cash and loyalty point crowd-funding scholarship!
All students currently enrolled in post-secondary in Canada are invited to set up an ALT-Scholarship profile here and crowd-fund donations of cash and loyalty points to help pay for tuition.
The ALT-Scholarship is different from any other scholarship because it’s:

Inclusive
All students currently enrolled in post-secondary education in Canada can participate. Including international, mature, part-time and second career students.
Transparent
ALT-Scholarship funds can only be deposited into a tuition account at an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution. This keeps things simple, equitable and transparent for participants and donors.

Equitable
The ALT-Scholarship flips the model 180 degrees; students are in the driver’s seat, not an adjudication committee. It’s not winner-take-all.
Simple
No transcripts, no reference letters, no 1,000 word essays. Share your story—as much or as little as you’d like.

How it Works
Who is eligible?
Participants must currently be currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution in Canada.
- Marks don’t matter.
- Program of study doesn’t matter.
- Citizenship doesn’t matter.
- Age doesn’t matter.
HigherEdPoints will deposit your funds into your tuition account. You’ll have to provide us with your student ID at that school when it comes time to “cash-out”.
How to participate
1) Register for the ALT-Scholarship here.
2) Fill in your public campaign profile details including your:
- Year of study (e.g. 1st year, grad school, continuing education)
- Field of study (e.g. psychology, engineering, art history)
- Institution of study
- Ideal post-graduation plan (e.g. career, volunteer, more education,etc)
3) Add anything else you like to your story—as much or as little as you like
4) Use the social sharing tools to let your family, friends, employer, and any potential supporters in your network know about your ALT-Scholarship participation.
HigherEdPoints will support your efforts with our own social sharing of the ALT-Scholarship too.
How to raise funds: cash and loyalty points
There are two kinds of funds you can raise through the ALT-Scholarship:
Cash. Donations can be made directly into your ALT-Scholarship campaign by those in your own network and by donors who learn about your educational journey through the campaign.
Loyalty Points. HigherEdPoints.com allows students to use anyone’s loyalty points to help fund their tuition. Every time you let your network know about your participation in the ALT-Scholarship, you’ll also be letting them know there’s a cash-free way to help you through converting their loyalty points.
This is how to raise cash donations from loyalty points:
Have your supporters follow the 3-step process outlined at HigherEdPoints How it Works page. During the Transfer process,
- Select HigherEdPoints’ ALT-Scholarship as the “institution”
- Enter your full name where a student ID would normally go.
- HigherEdPoints will allocate the funds to your ALT-Scholarship campaign.
How to get your funds into your tuition account
Once you’ve hit your $2000 funding goal, send us an email at hello@higheredpoints.com and we will get your fund deposited into your tuition account.
