The program is back this year, offering a total of $160,000 across 72 awards. If you're a Canadian student considering a career in the electrical industry, check out the details on how you can apply for up to three EFC scholarships.

How do I qualify for an EFC scholarship?

Here's what you need to be eligible to apply for one of the many EFC scholarships on offer:

  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • have completed at least one year of college or university in Canada
  • maintain at least a 75% average
  • be enrolled and attending full-time in fall 2023 / winter 2024 (that's this September!)

Please be aware that while these are the general eligibility requirements, some specific scholarships will have additional restrictions, so be sure to read the details closely before applying.

What kinds of careers does the electrical industry offer?

There's more to the electrical industry than just electricians — though of course they're important too.

Electrical engineers, technicians (and their cousins, technologists!) are supported by a wide array of professionals in all kinds of fields, from accounting to data analytics, marketing to logistics, and much more. There are plenty of great career options in Canada's electrical industry, no matter your interests and aptitudes.

How can I track down specific awards to apply for?

For 2023, EFC has made browsing their awards easier than ever, breaking the available scholarships down by intended audience. You can filter opportunities by:

Location

These awards are meant for students "with connections to" specific parts of Canada. If you live in a region, or you're attending school there, you should qualify!

Personal identity

In an effort to support greater diversity and inclusion in the electrical industry, EFC and its members have opened a few awards to members of specific groups. There are plenty of awards open to all students, too!

Scholarships for women

Ten scholarships meant for people who identify as women are open for applications!

Scholarships for people of colour

Six awards are open to people of colour — you might also see the phrase "BIPOC" (meaning "Black, Indigenous, and people of colour").

Scholarships for Indigenous students

Indigenous students are eligible for awards for people of colour, above, as well as six scholarships for people of Indigenous descent.

Scholarships for all students

Finally, there are 17 scholarships open to students of all stripes, so no matter who you are, be sure to check out this list to see what's available.

12 $1,000 EFC University & College scholarships

Finally, on top of the many generous awards offered by its member companies, EFC is giving out a dozen $1,000 scholarships to college and university students, drawn from the pool of all applicants.
