Reskill for the Green Economy with a $5,000 to $10,000 Scholarship from RBC

The RBC Foundation launched a new scholarship program aimed at preparing workers for a new, greener economy. As Canada transitions to a net zero economy, workers will need new and upgraded skills to remain competitive. With over a million Canadian jobs due for "green" disruption over the next decade, the Green Skills Scholarship is one way RBC is supporting the next generation of green workers.

Who is this new RBC Foundation Green Skills scholarship for?

This scholarship is aimed at Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are 25 years of age or older, starting or returning to studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution in one of these program areas:

  • Agriculture and food production
  • Building and construction
  • Renewable energy
  • Transportation
  • Waste management and recycling

Here's a quick guide to eligibility requirements:

  • Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or status as a Protected Person or Convention Refugee in Canada
  • Adult learner over the age of 25, starting or returning to post-secondary studies to work on solutions to pressing environmental challenges — and not yet retired from the workforce
  • Enrolled in part-time or full-time diploma or post-graduate certificate in an eligible field at an eligible institution — and your program must be at least two semesters in length

How many scholarships are available?

The RBC Foundation offers up to 30 scholarships, worth between $5,000 and $10,000 each per year, for up to two years.

Funds received from the scholarship are intended for post-secondary tuition and other related living expenses.

How will scholarship recipients be decided?

Outside of the requirements noted above, here's how recipients will be selected:

1. Commitment to environmentalism

Successful applicants will demonstrate an interest in environmental sustainability, conservation, or other related areas, especially in the workplace.

2. Innovation

Recipients should have ideas and plans for projects that will help green your workplace or industry, with an eye to improving environmental sustainability.

3. Career goals

Applicants will have clear, achievable aspirations for your career going forward, and be able to connect these goals to a net-zero future. Recipients should be able to show how receiving a Green Skills scholarship will help reach your goals.

4. Financial need

Successful recipients will have a financial gap; special consideration will be given to applicants living in low-income households or supporting dependents.
