Durham College’s on-campus employment programs are designed to assist full-time, domestic and international students who demonstrate a financial need with useful career-related experiences that will help them achieve their personal and academic goals.

Our programs offer competitive wages and valuable work experience within a variety of exciting roles and departments throughout Durham campuses.

1. DCWorks / IWorks

Earn money this academic year through the on-campus DCWorks/ IWorks program! The DCWorks/IWorks program is designed to assist full-time students who are anticipating or experiencing financial difficulties by providing them with part-time employment on campus. So, if working from September to April for a maximum of 12 hours/week (140/term) sounds like the right call for you, then make sure you check out the DCWorks/IWorks program!

Eligibility for DCWorks

On top of being a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, DCWorks also requires you to:

• Meet the Ontario Residency requirements as defined by OSAP
• Be an OSAP recipient or have a demonstrated financial need
• Be enrolled in a full time post-secondary program with a minimum of 60% of course load (or 40% for students with a disability)
• Achieve a GPA of 2.0 or higher each semester to remain eligible for the program

Eligibility for IWorks

The IWorks program allows international students to work part-time during the school year, but you must meet the following requirements to be eligible:

• Be an international student holding a valid Study Permit
• Be able to obtain a Social Insurance Number (Studying and working in Canada as an international student)
• Be enrolled in a full time post-secondary program with a minimum of 60% of course load
• Achieve a GPA of 2.0 or higher each term to remain eligible for the program

2. Summer employment program / international summer employment

The summer employment program allows domestic students and international students who are returning to studies in the fall semester to work full-time hours from May to August of each academic year. That means you’re able to work a maximum of 35 hours per week as part of this program.

The summer employment program is a great way to gain new sets of skills and build your professional network.

Eligibility for domestic students

To be eligible for the summer employment program, you’ll need to:

• Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident and meet the Ontario Residency requirements as defined by OSAP
• Be an OSAP recipient or have a demonstrated a financial need
• Be enrolled as a full-time student in the fall and winter semesters preceding the summer employment period
• Be returning to full-time studies in the fall semester following the summer employment period
• Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher in the Winter semester preceding the program start

Eligibility for international students

To be eligible for the international summer employment program, you’ll need to:

• Be an international student holding a valid Study Permit
• Be able to obtain a Social Insurance Number (Studying and working in Canada as an international student)
• Be enrolled as a full-time student in the fall and winter semesters preceding the summer employment period
• Be returning to full-time studies in the fall semester following the summer employment period
• Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher in the Winter semester preceding the program start

3. Peer tutoring

Students who are interested in helping other students reach academic success in their program can apply to become a peer tutor.

As a peer tutor, you’ll be able to provide guidance and instruction for students trying to understand their course content. You’ll need to be able to clearly explain concepts, have good interpersonal skills, and be punctual. You can expect to work a maximum of 12 hours/week.

Requirements to become a peer tutor

Peer tutors must meet the following requirements:

• Be a full-time student currently enrolled at Durham College
• Have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or greater (80% or higher) in the courses you want to Peer tutor and a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.5
• Must be in second semester or higher of your program or possess a previous relevant degree/diploma
• Must provide one reference from Durham College faculty
• Be available to work 4 to 12 hours per week throughout the semester
