What is Work-Integrated Learning?
Learn how you can combine academic studies with hands-on experience at Algonquin College.
At Algonquin College, we’ve got a great reputation for providing work-integrated learning experiences (WIL). But “What’s WIL?”, you ask. Allow us to shed some light on the subject.
What is Work-Integrated Learning?
As defined by Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Canada (CEWIL) “Work-integrated learning is a form of curricular experiential education that formally integrates a student’s academic studies with quality experiences within a workplace or practice setting.”
To put it plainly, it’s learning by doing! These hands-on WIL experiences will be more deeply ingrained in your brain than theory lessons ever could.
Put your skills to the test
WIL experiences allow you to practice what you’re learning in class. Here, you’ll hone your professional skills and get real-world experience by applying what you’ve learned in the field. This way, you’ll be better prepared to enter the workforce!
Earn while you learn
Speaking of the workforce, did we mention that some of our WIL experiences are paid? You could earn upwards of $10,000 for 16 weeks of practical work experience. Not only are you learning on the job, you’re making bank too.
Get a foot in the door
Networking is a huge plus in any industry and WIL experiences are one of the best ways to do it! This is a fantastic opportunity to make friends in your field and maybe even land a permanent position before you graduate. From attending your first interview to integrating into workplace culture, you’ll be making strong industry connections in no time.
Where there’s a WIL, there’s a way!
