3 Steps to Apply to York University

Making the decision about which universities to apply to can often feel overwhelming. Luckily, York University makes the choice easier by offering everything you might be looking for in your university experience.

At York, you can shape your degree around what's important to you.

  • Seeking a diverse, supportive, and engaged community?
  • Looking to combine your passion with practical work experience like co-op?
  • Want to be at the heart of the action — close to Toronto's restaurants, festivals, sporting events and concerts?

At York, we'll help you check all these boxes and more.

But first, you'll need to apply. Follow these simple steps to prepare your application to York!

Step 1: Find the right program for you

Explore 150+ top-ranking undergraduate degree programs equipped with innovative courses and hands-on learning opportunities to fuel your future career potential.

Use our handy Program Search tool to explore programs by areas of interest, co-op availability, faculty or campus.

Pro-tip: Can't decide between two programs? Apply to both! York University allows you to apply to multiple programs at once as well as combine majors and minors once you're admitted.

Step 2: Know your requirements

Every program at York has general requirements, like minimum grades, transcripts and proof you finished high school. Depending on the program you're applying to, you might also need additional prerequisite courses or a supplementary application, like a video interview, portfolio, or audition.

Step 3: Submit your application

Once you've got your requirements in hand, it's time to apply. York University makes the application process simple by offering two ways to submit:

  1. 1. Through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre: This is best if you're applying to multiple Ontario universities.
  2. 2. Directly through the York University Application: Perfect if York is your one-and-only choice.

It's important to stay on top of these application deadlines to ensure your application gets considered:

Program Start Ontario High School Deadline Out-of-Province High School Deadline
Fall 2026 (September)January 15, 2026February 2, 2026
Summer 2026 (May)April 1, 2026April 1, 2026

Once you apply, you'll receive an email from York with login details for MyFile — an online portal where you can track your application status and upload required documents.

Pro-tip: Start gathering your documents early, especially if they need to be translated or certified. York might ask for things like your official transcripts, proof of English proficiency and for some programs, supplementary materials like a portfolio, audition, or video interview.
