Bioscience Students: The I.D.E.A.L. Scholarship is Open Now for Applications!

If you're entering your first year of a post-secondary bioscience program, check out the BioTalent Canada I.D.E.A.L. ScholarshipTM! First, what does I.D.E.A.L. stand for?

I: Inclusion
D: Diversity
E: Equity
A: Accessibility
L: Leadership

The I.D.E.A.L. ScholarshipTM awards three scholarships to students who identify as:

  • Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Métis)
  • Persons with a disability (qualify for the Disability Tax Credit)
  • Newcomer to Canada (immigrant, refugee, or permanent resident with fewer than 5 years in Canada)

If you're a bright, engaged student, committed to IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility) principles, and you're headed into a bioscience program, BioTalent Canada wants to hear from you!

Which programs in biosciences are eligible?

Eligible programs must be connected to life sciences or biosciences. This can include:

  • biotechnology
  • biochemistry
  • health sciences
  • environmental biology
  • biomedical sciences
  • and related fields.

If your program supports a pathway into the bio-economy, it likely qualifies.

Please also be aware that if you're attending a CEGEP (Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel), the scholarship amount is valued at $5,000.

How will my application be assessed?

Your efforts to promote IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility) are important! Here's how BioTalent Canada will assess applicants:

  • Aligning your personal actions and experiences with IDEA
  • Demonstrated leadership in promoting IDEA values among your peers
  • Recognition of achievement promoting IDEA
  • Your commitment to increasing personal awareness and understanding of IDEA concepts through active learning and engagement
  • Your efforts to foster a sense of belonging among diverse groups within the classroom, school clubs, and teams, and other community groups and volunteer opportunities
  • Perceived importance of IDEA in your education and future career pursuits

How do I apply for an I.D.E.A.L. ScholarshipTM?

The application process is entirely online. Fill out the application as thoroughly as possible.

Tip: the more detail and examples you include in your responses, the more the judges have to work with. You will be asked to include proof you're entering first year of a bioscience program, your academic transcript, and references.
