The Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) is Canada's biggest stage for budding scientists. Students from across the country bring their best and brightest projects to share and explore the wide world of STEM. Whether you're an interested student or parent, there's lots of fun to be had at CSWF!
Nearly 400 students in grades 7 through 12, who have won regional science fairs across Canada, come together in Edmonton, Alberta, for a week of science and fun starting this weekend.
Visitors are welcome to visit for free during public viewing hours on Sunday, May 24, or later in the week, on May 28 & 29, if you're in the Edmonton area. You can also visit CWSF online once Virtual CSWF kicks off on May 24! Learn, engage, and be inspired!
Project Zone & STEM Expo
Students from across Canada bring their science projects to the country's biggest stage, showcasing their work in the Project Zone. Students demo their big ideas for healthcare, engineering, environmental and computer sciences, and more, competing for prizes and nearly $1,000,000 in cash.
The STEM Expo offers participants and visitors the chance to engage with the sciences, by experimenting, coding, and creating. Check out what local, national, and international companies and organizations are working on in the world of STEM.
More than just a competition
Beyond just competing for prizes and prestige, participants engage with fun, sciency activities, connect with peers from coast to coast to coast, and celebrate their passion for STEM.
Students can explore modern labs and facilities to see how STEM professionals work day to day, take in great presentations from guest presenters, and express themselves in a safe, liberating space for lovers of STEM, art, sport, and more.
A full week of science and fun
Participants set up their projects on May 24, and Judging Day commences on Monday, May 25. Judges check out the projects, chatting and questioning the student scientists, before a full evening of events kicks off.
Judging continues into Tuesday, and Wednesday, students emerge to discover all that Edmonton has to offer! Participants take a break from competing to connect and have adventures in the city.
Thursday and Friday bring public viewings, where community members can join the party and check out what participants have been up to. Students show off their projects and answer visitors' questions, and take part in the award ceremony on Thursday night.

How to participate in next year's CWSF
Feeling inspired and ready to take part in next year's big event? CWSF is presented by Youth Science Canada, which hosts regional STEM fairs across the country. Each year, 10,000 students take part in regional fairs, usually in the spring. Top participants are then invited to the Canada-Wide Science Fair — and a few continue onto international competitions!
Check out the regional fair map for info on regional fairs across Canada. Get involved, make an impression, and you just might find yourself on stage at the next Canada-Wide Science Fair!
