A Humber College student prepares to apply for scholarships!

Applying for scholarships is part of college life for most students. It can be a stressful process, but it doesn’t have to be if you are strategic about it!

First, you need to know where to look for them. Start with your school’s financial aid office. Humber offers several entrance scholarships, program-specific scholarships, and industry-wide scholarships. Visit your school's financial aid website for more information.

Here are some useful external scholarship sites that are worth a look:

Know what makes you unique

Do you have some impressive work or volunteer experience? Any interesting or unique skills or hobbies? Recognize your strengths and what sets you apart from other applicants. Odds are you’ll find some specific scholarships you may be uniquely qualified for.

Build your scholarship resumé

Some scholarships ask you to send in your resumé to learn more about your qualifications for scholarship consideration.

If you have already chosen a career path or have an idea of the program you’d be interested in, now’s the time to build your relevant work and volunteer experience to qualify for program and career-specific scholarships.

Interested in Journalism? Join or start a school newsletter or yearbook. Want to study Management? Figure out what delicious recipes you can come up with and make them go viral on social media.

For extra help with your resumé, Humber offers you the opportunity to work with Career Advisors who will help you maximize your potential as a scholarship applicant or prospective employee. They can also help you prepare for an interview and improve your LinkedIn profile.

When you feel you need an extra eye on your scholarship application, you can also make an appointment with Humber’s Writing Centre, who can help you make your application as compelling as possible.

Do your best!

Scholarship postings often require an academic transcript to evaluate your academic excellence.

If you’re having trouble with a course, don’t be afraid to ask for support. Humber offers Math and English help at their Mathematics and Writing centres, and you can also book appointments with peer tutors for support with other courses!
