Description:Dental Hygiene has been recognized and practiced as a profession for over fifty years. Dental Hygienists work with clients and patients and can treat them independently of the dentist with certain restrictions. Dental Hygiene is a dynamic and challenging health care profession that allows for a wide range of practice environments. These include general dental practices, speciality offices, independent dental hygiene clinics, research and education, and public health positions.

Dental Hygienists perform a myriad of services for clients and patients. These include scaling and root planing (cleaning teeth), educating clients and patients on oral hygiene, putting sealants on teeth, and teeth whitening. Further education can also be pursued that allow for even more duties and responsibilities.

Admission Requirements

Applicants educated in Ontario must have completed a high school diploma equivalent to the following mandatory admission requirements. Applicants from other provinces in Canada other than Ontario must have all the same requirements or equivalent in their respective provinces.

Mature students include applicants who are 19 years of age or over by the first day of classes and who lack the academic admission requirements may be considered on an individual basis. Individuals applying as a mature student and do not have a Secondary School Diploma must supply if needed proof of age such as an official birth certificate or drivers licence. The Mandatory pre-admission test applies to all applicants applying as a mature student. The College of Dental Hygienist and Auxiliaries Inc. may choose to have all applicants applying as a mature student to take additional test prior to the mandatory pre-admission test.
