Description:The PhD program in Resource and Environmental Management provides an opportunity for pursuing high-level research and interdisciplinary education in natural resources and environmental management. This degree is intended to be a truly interdisciplinary research degree. Students have to demonstrate core knowledge of Environmental Science, Ecological Economics, and Environmental Policy in a comprehensive exam. Furthermore, their research must incorporate two of these areas. Since 1994, we have attracted outstanding students to this program and the research they produce has been excellent.

  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 7] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 93] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 580]

Ph.D. applicants are expected to submit GRE scores (general test) as part of their application. SFU code: 0999; REM code 0110. Applicants whose native language is not English and whose education has been conducted in a language other than English are required to submit English Language test scores (TOEFL or IELTS). SFU code: 0999; REM code: 46.

If your native language is not English you must provide proof of English language competency. We accept: TOEFL 580 (paper based) and TWE 5, TOEFL 93 (internet based - minimum of 20 in each module), IELTS overall band score of 7.0 of the academic (NOT general) test with a minimum of 6.5 in each section. The university and department code for the TOEFL is 0999 (SFU) and 46 (REM). International applicants whose primary language is not English will not be required to complete an English-language test if they have completed a degree at an institution where the language of instruction and examination was in English in a country where English is the primary language. It should be noted that in order to maintain a high academic standard, very few waivers are granted. Therefore, it is recommended that those applicants whose primary language is not English submit an English language proficiency test with their application.
