Classics (BA)

Program Information

School:University of Bristol
Degree:Bachelor
Field of Study:Classical, Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies and Archaeology
Description:Our Classics degree focuses on the study and appreciation of a wide spectrum of Greek and Latin literature. Languages are taught at all levels from absolute beginner onwards. Some classes concentrate on building and developing language and translation skills, while others focus on literary criticism and engagement with the text.

In the first two years you will study both Greek and Latin and choose optional units from literature, philosophy, art, and political, social or cultural history. There is the possibility of studying abroad for a semester in the second year. In the third year you continue with at least one ancient language, choose from a range of seminar-based special subjects, and write a dissertation on your own specialist research project. You will also plan, market and execute a project aimed at presenting classics to the wider public, with a member of staff acting as adviser.
