Applicants must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or have mature student status. Grade 11 Chemistry is also acceptable. Applicants must have a minimum grade of 70% in the Grade 12 (C) or (U) Mathematics prerequisite. Non-academic requirements are a current certificate in CPR (Basic Rescuer) and St. John Standard First aid for adults, children, and infants; a current immunization record, a current criminal record check and all applicants must also take the HOAE (Health Occupation Aptitude Exam) pre-admission test.
Clinical placement requirements
Students will be required to provide additional documentation directly to their field placement before the start of the placement and at their own expense. To be part of the Practical Nursing program, you need to possess a strong background in science and math, excellent communication skills, steady hands and the ability to lift and carry up to 25 kg.
Practical Nursing program classes can be scheduled any time between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. Monday to Friday. Your classes are all in person and will be 22–25 hours per week.
Additional hours every week are requested for completing homework and/or computer-assisted language learning. You must also be able to spend 20–25 hours per week on assignments outside of class.
Timetable schedules are released after fee payment, approximately three weeks before classes start. The school is unable to accommodate students' preferences or requests for schedule changes.
Under the provisions of the Regulated Health Profession and Nursing Acts, to qualify to write the RPN registration exams, you must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada or be authorized under the Immigration Act.
All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Sheridan's English Proficiency Requirements.
