| Description | Expertise in modern languages has never been more important as the United Kingdom forges a new relationship with its European partners and seeks to develop its trading and cultural ties throughout the world. The University of Bristol is a thriving and dynamic centre for the study of modern languages and cultures. The BA Spanish at Bristol provides you with tailor-made teaching to help you achieve a high level of fluency and accuracy in modern spoken and written Spanish. During this four-year degree you will also study many aspects of the society, culture, literature and linguistic history of Spanish-speaking countries across the globe.
Bristol offers students a rich array of popular and imaginative options in the study of Spanish and Latin American culture, which currently include sports writing, women’s writing and cinema. From the study of Latin America’s indigenous people to contemporary Hispanic fiction, you will develop a thorough understanding of the rich diversity of the culture in Spain and elsewhere in the Spanish-speaking world. The highlight of the degree for many students is the opportunity to spend the third year of the degree on a study or work placement in a Spanish-speaking country. We currently have study exchange agreements with universities in Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Columbia and elsewhere in Latin America.
