| Description | On this course, you will learn about the physics that underpins the history, structure and dynamics of earth systems, and how these relate to exploration for natural resources and environmental monitoring, for example. You will explore the inaccessible parts of Earth’s interior through a range of geophysical techniques and become immersed in hands-on earth sciences from the start.
In years one and two you will gain a firm grounding in earth sciences, physics, mathematics and computing, building your knowledge to inform your choice of third year options. Recent options have included Economic Geology, Petroleum Sedimentology, Physical Volcanology and Environmental Radioactivity. Your third year also includes an independent field and laboratory project. We have a tightly knit community and a programme of student-run projects, informal seminars and social events. Our close links with industry ensure that the skills you gain during your studies are valued by employers. Recent partners include Shell, Chevron, Reykjavik Energy, Atkins and EDF. The course includes over 35 days of fieldwork in the UK and overseas, the cost of which is included in your tuition fee.
