On behalf of ScholarshipsCanada we want to congratulate 14 outstanding recipients of the Bill 7 Award for LGBTQ+ community.
The Bill 7 Award Trust was established in 1987 to provide post-secondary education scholarships LGBTQ+ students who are pursuing a first degree in any Ontario post-secondary institution and are in financial need.
In 2018 due to outstanding support of the local community and beneficiaries, the Bill 7 Award was able to raise more funds and award 14 scholarships instead of 12. All the recipients are young outstanding individuals who are active members of their community and show their contribution to the improvement of the LGBTQ+ community in Ontario.
Meet 2018 Bill 7 Award Recipients
“Hi! My name is Ava Truthwaite, I'm a second-year queer Indigenous student at the University of Toronto, majoring in the Ethics, Society & Law program. Being a recipient of the Bill 7 Award is helping me fund my undergraduate studies, which are guiding me towards a career in international human rights law. I am passionate about ethics, journalism, intersectional feminism, dogs, and also anything caffeinated.”
“You wouldn’t have been given this life if you weren’t strong enough to live it.”
“The secret of Change is to focus all your energy not on fighting the old but on building the new.
My message is to be yourself and to help others when possible and to just love one another, no matter what. Change is happening and it will continue to happen for the better.”
"The Bill 7 Award has opened a door of new possibilities for me. There is no way I would be able to accomplish the things I've done if it weren't for this scholarship. Being recognized for my hard work has reminded me how important it is to value individual strengths, and work towards a bigger and brighter world."
"Thank you to all who make the Bill 7 Scholarship possible. The financial support is extremely helpful for me, and is greatly appreciated."
“The Bill 7 Award helped to put me on a path to one day see my dreams realized. I am forever thankful for the generosity of the donors and the trust of the selection committee. This Award will help not just myself, but all of the recipients to make this world a better place, both for LGBTQ+ people, and for everyone. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
"This award supports the possibility each award winner represents for a future that includes our success! I am so thankful for the donors and this award, both for myself and my daughter as a non-binary, intersex, and queer person of colour."
